The crystalline waters of the Natchaug River separate our campground from the Natchaug State Forest. A continuing series of cascading rapids, whirlpools and slow, deep holding waters provides oxygen-rich water for thousands of trout stocked every year by the state DEP. Stocking begins prior to the traditional April trout opener and continues through the Memorial Day weekend, and another load of fish is stocked in October.
Mayfly hatches are common on the river and daytime fly fishing combines with hours of fast action in the evening and early morning hours. Anglers can choose to fish within the campground or can explore upstream and down at many areas along the river where public access is found. Our campground store carries, lures, flies, and terminal tackle and owner Chris Nickerson is happy to share his knowledge of local trout tricks with campers and fellow anglers.
